At National Cancer Foundation (NCF) one of our missions is to help people affected by cancer. One of the ways we do this is through our fantastic Patient Accommodation Program.
Facing treatment for a scary disease is tough enough. Doing it hundreds or even thousands of kilometres from home and without your family support unit is unimaginable.
We know that having 'your team' around you can make all the difference in the world. And while everyone’s team may be different - spouse, partner, kids, parents, siblings, grandparents, carers, friends - they all provide the same things: comfort, support, much-needed laughs and that beautiful feeling of 'home'. Being together means you can lean on them for these things, and focus on getting better.
But we also know that accommodating extra people like this costs a lot. In most Australian capital cities, short-term accommodation for a family of four can cost anywhere between $1,000 and $4,000 (per week).
You’ve got enough on your plate right now. You don’t need to worry about finding a place to stay... and then having to pay for it.
That’s why NCF provides free patient accommodation. It lets you keep your family together at a difficult time, and avoid that extra - enormous - financial burden.
We have nine homes in five different cities around Australia, and we’re working to get more. If you need a place to stay while you or a loved one is getting treatment for cancer, we hope A Home Away From Home can help.
